The recent events in Wisconsin have the rancid smell of power abuse; our Democracy has been placed on the defensive road by uncivilized and corporatist tactics.
It has been suggested by some in the media (see TRMS ) that beginning with Wisconsin the GOP endgame is to knock out the competition via shutting down the influence of unions in the campaign process thereby leaving the bulk of campaign finance and influence to the corporate influences that are now, currently in control of policy direction and more importantly, the true redistribution of wealth from the middle to the top. This has also been upheld by SCOTUS in it's opinion, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. This reversal opinion opened the floodgates for the corporative organizational takeover by the GOP in this last election cycle.
It has also been suggested that our voting rights are also under attack. A quick search of voter id bills quickly shows the extent to which states such as Texas led by GOP representatives will go to make this the reality for the next election cycle when we will again be voting for Presidential leadership. Instead of making the voting process more accessible to the citizens of the United States, especially for the disenfranchised and most vulnerable, the GOP is willing to virtually take your voting rights back to an earlier time in our history. Are polling taxes, land ownership and 3/5 provisions on the horizion?
We in the middle instead of falling into the cracks of joblessness, poverty, disability and age must take action to circumvent these attempts at beheading the democratic visage of Liberty. We must use our voices, our votes, our resources of money, time and powers of advocacy; we must pull everyone into the discourse, point out the blatant attempts by the Conservative Right to change our Democracy into something the we no longer recognize. It is up to each of us to fight for ourUnited States of America and not let it become the Amalgamated States of America, LLP.
It is time to Stand and STAND PROUD!
